Braids, locs, extensions or a wig?
What we can work with, what we cannot, and what to book instead.
The most-asked head spa question, answered plainly. Most hair extensions: yes (not tape-ins). Wigs: yes — removed first, with private time at the end to put it back on. Braids and locs: no — the ritual needs the scalp reachable and the lengths loose. Open 7 AM to 11 PM, seven days a week, by appointment.
The short answer
The honest answer,
A Japanese head spa at The Bronze Lily is a five-step scalp ritual: a micro-exfoliant mask, a targeted shampoo, a treatment mask, a deep conditioner through the lengths and scalp serums throughout — with steam, hot towels, halo water hydrotherapy and an extended scalp massage. Every step needs the scalp reachable and the hair free to move. That single fact decides every answer on this page.
Extensions (other than tape-ins) let us reach the scalp, so we work around them with gentle brushes and tools. A wig comes off, so the ritual is exactly as it is for everyone else. Braids and locs keep the scalp and lengths bound, so the mask, shampoo and conditioner cannot do their work and the massage cannot reach the skin — we do not book them.

What we can work with
Extensions and wigs,
Hair extensions: sew-in, K-tip, micro-link, pre-bonded fusion. Ideally a head spa sits between extension appointments — after a removal, or in the days to weeks before a new install — but plenty of clients enjoy the ritual with extensions in place. Our therapists use specific brushes and tools that are gentle on bonds and wefts, and the deep conditioner is worked through the lengths rather than scrubbed at the roots.
Tape-in extensions: no. The oils and detox products in the ritual compromise tape adhesion. We cannot perform the treatment over tape-ins and would have to reschedule you, so please say “tape-ins” when you book and save yourself the trip. Come back after a move-up or removal.
Wigs: yes, removed first. You take the wig off in your private suite before the ritual begins and we treat your own scalp and hair underneath. We cannot help you put the wig back on — that is your craft, not ours — but we book built-in time at the end of the appointment so you have the suite to yourself to reapply it before you leave. Nobody sees you between the two.
Tell us at booking. “I have sew-ins,” “I will be removing a wig” — one line in the booking notes or a text lets us set the suite time correctly and pick the right therapist and tools.
Being honest about it
Where we draw
Braids: no. Box braids, knotless, cornrows, feed-ins — the scalp is partly covered and the lengths are bound, so the five-step sequence cannot be done properly and the water halo and massage cannot reach the skin. We would be charging you for a ritual we could not actually perform.
Locs: no. Locs hold product and water in ways the ritual is not designed for, and a treatment mask or deep conditioner left inside locs is a problem, not a benefit. This is not a judgement about your hair; it is about what this specific treatment needs.
What to book instead. With braids or locs, the rest of the studio is open to you: a facial, the Root Room foot spa with its herbal soak, tea and red light, massage, a spray tan, lashes, brows or welded jewelry. And if a take-down is coming up, book the head spa for the window between styles — a freshly loose scalp is exactly when the ritual does the most.
We are not making medical claims. A head spa is scalp care, not treatment, and your therapist is not diagnosing anything. If a scalp problem is new, painful, spreading or not improving, see a dermatologist first — and tell us at intake either way, so we work gently around it.
Cancellations. Twenty-four hours’ notice is required. Cancellations under 24 hours are 50% of service cost; no-shows, arrivals 15+ minutes late, or cancellations under 4 hours are 100%. All bookings require a card on file — no deposits. Phone call or text to (727) 218-7045 are the only valid ways to cancel or reschedule. All sales are final.

Braids, Locs, Extensions & Wigs · Common Questions
Head spa and your hair
Can I get a head spa with braids?
No. The Japanese head spa needs direct access to the scalp and loose lengths for the exfoliant mask, shampoo, treatment mask, deep conditioner and extended scalp massage. With braids in, the ritual cannot be done properly, so we do not book it. Book for the window after a take-down instead, or choose a facial, the Root Room foot spa, massage, spray tan, lashes or brows.
Can I get a head spa with locs?
No. Locs hold product and water in a way the ritual is not designed for, and a treatment mask or conditioner left inside locs is a problem rather than a benefit. The rest of the studio is open to you, and we would rather say so plainly than waste your trip.
Can I get a head spa with hair extensions?
Yes, for most types. Sew-in, K-tip, micro-link and pre-bonded fusion extensions are compatible — our therapists use brushes and tools that are gentle on bonds and wefts. Tape-in extensions are not: the oils and detox products compromise the tape adhesion, so we cannot treat over tape-ins and would have to reschedule you. Please mention tape-ins when you book.
Can I get a head spa if I wear a wig?
Yes. You remove the wig in your private suite before the ritual and we treat your own scalp and hair. We cannot reapply the wig for you, but we book built-in time at the end of your appointment so you have the suite to yourself to put it back on before you leave.
Should I take my braids out before a head spa?
If a take-down is already planned, book the head spa for just after it — a freshly loose scalp is when the ritual does the most. We would not suggest removing a style early only for a head spa; book something else at the studio in the meantime.
What does a Japanese head spa include?
Every full ritual (60 minutes and up) runs a five-step product sequence — micro-exfoliant mask, targeted shampoo, treatment mask, deep conditioner through the lengths, and scalp serums throughout — plus steam, hot towels, halo water hydrotherapy, extended scalp massage, cranial pressure-point work, neck, shoulder, hand and arm massage, with a Tricho-Analyzer scalp reading before and after. The 30-minute Mini Lunch Break is a shortened version.
How much is a head spa at The Bronze Lily?
Mini Lunch Break $90 (30 min), Relax & Detox $120 (60 min), the condition-specific rituals $145 (75 min), Hair Growth Activation $175 (90 min), VIP Full Ritual $225 (120 min). A side-by-side duo is exactly twice the solo price. No deposits; a card on file holds the appointment.
How do I book, and when are you open?
Online on Square or text (727) 218-7045 — and say what you have in: extensions (which type), a wig, braids or locs. Open 7 AM to 11 PM, seven days a week, by appointment. Book Relax & Detox online.
