The short answer
A chemical peel is a controlled exfoliation — acids like lactic, salicylic, and resorcinol, or TCA at a measured strength — that resurfaces skin to smooth texture, even tone, and brighten. It's safe when matched to your skin and done by a trained esthetician. You may flake lightly (gentle peels often don't at all); the rule is never pick, moisturize, and wear SPF. Some skin and situations should wait — see below. See the facials menu or book a consult.
“Chemical” and “peel” are two of the scariest words in skincare. Both are misleading. Here's what a peel actually is, and why the careful version is one of the best things you can do for your skin.
A peel doesn't strip your face off. It speeds up what your skin already does — shedding dull, damaged surface cells so fresher, more even skin comes forward. We use professional formulas at measured strengths, from a gentle clinical blend of lactic and salicylic acid to stronger TCA resurfacing, chosen for your skin and your tolerance for downtime.
Will I actually peel and flake?
Maybe — and usually less than the internet promises. A gentle peel may leave you simply glowing with little to no visible flaking. A stronger peel can bring a few days of light peeling. The one unbreakable rule is this: let it shed on its own. Picking or pulling flaking skin is how you turn a great result into irritation or a mark. Moisturize, protect, and let your skin finish the job.
A peel doesn't damage your skin. Picking at a peeling face does. The discipline is the whole game.
Who should wait
This is where a good studio earns your trust by saying not today. We won't peel over active or untreated cystic acne, active eczema or psoriasis, open wounds, keloid-prone skin, during pregnancy, or on/recently off Accutane. If any of these apply, a peel isn't the right tool right now — we'll point you to something gentler that still moves you forward.
Prep and aftercare, simply
Before: pause retinol and strong acids for about a week, skip waxing and hair-removal cream, and don't come in freshly sunburned or tanned. After: gentle cleanser, generous moisturizer, and daily SPF — fresh skin burns easily. No picking, no actives, no saunas or hot yoga until it's calm. Do that, and you glow.
The safest, best peel is the one matched to your skin. Start with a consult so we can assess and recommend the right strength — see the facials menu or book on Square. New to resurfacing? Here's how peels compare to dermaplaning and microdermabrasion.
