What it must never do is go ash or orange, which is what a one-size solution does on a rich undertone. Every tan here is custom-mixed to your undertone and hand-airbrushed, fourteen years in. The short answer
Deep skin and spray tan, 
Deep skin has a wider range of undertones than fair skin — red, golden, olive, neutral, cool — and the wrong base shows faster. A red-based solution on a cool-deep undertone goes muddy; a green or ash-based mix on a golden undertone goes grey. So the mix is the whole job: your artist reads the undertone at the jaw, chest and inner arm in daylight and blends to match it, then sets the depth for what you want — a glow for photos, a real deepening for an event, or an evening-out pass over tone that summer left uneven. The application is hand-airbrushed, face lighter than body, neck faded, hands and feet dry-brushed. Everything is organic, vegan, UV-free and odour-neutralised, and nothing is sprayed from a booth.

How we tan deep skin
Deep skin, 
Read the undertone, in daylight. Jaw, chest, inner arm. Golden, red, olive, neutral or cool decides the base of the mix. This is the step a booth cannot do and the step that decides ash versus glow.
Decide what the tan is for. Evening out tone takes a lighter, more even pass. A deepening for a wedding or a photoshoot takes more depth. A glow for a trip takes something in between. Say which and the mix follows.
Hand-airbrush with contour where it helps. The face takes less than the body, the neck fades, and hands, feet, elbows and knees are dry-brushed so they do not grab darker than the rest. A Mini Contour ($5) adds shading to collarbones and cheekbones if there are photos.
Rinse at the right time. Signature develops 8–12 hours; the Rapid formulas rinse in 1–4 hours and keep developing. Your artist tells you the window for your mix. Rinse too late on deep skin and the tone can over-deepen; rinse on time and it settles exactly where it was planned.
Being honest about it
Results, aftercare 
How much change to expect. On deep skin the change is in evenness and warmth more than in shade. If you want to see it, take a photo in the same light before and after; the difference is in the glow and in how uniform the tone is, not in a number of shades.
Moisture matters more. A spray tan fades by exfoliating off, and dry skin exfoliates faster. Moisturise daily after the first rinse (not the morning of the tan), and the result lasts the full 7–10 days (10–14 for Sweat-Resistant).
Hyperpigmentation and old marks. A tan evens tone around them; it does not erase them, and we will not pretend otherwise. Scars, vitiligo and stretch marks take colour, usually more evenly than people expect; tell us about them at intake and we adjust.
Prep the same as anyone. Exfoliate and shave 24 hours ahead (not the day of); shower the morning of with no lotion, oil, perfume or deodorant; wear loose dark clothing in. Body Buffing Prep ($15) in the studio if you forgot.
Cancellations. Twenty-four hours’ notice is required. Cancellations under 24 hours are 50% of service cost; no-shows, arrivals 15+ minutes late, or cancellations under 4 hours are 100%. Does a spray tan work on dark skin?
Yes. On deep skin a custom spray tan evens tone (knees, elbows, old marks, sun-uneven patches), deepens warmth and adds glow. The change is in evenness and radiance more than in shade. It must be mixed to your undertone to avoid ash or orange, which is exactly what The Bronze Lily does for every client.
Will a spray tan make dark skin look ashy or grey?
Not when the base matches your undertone. Ash comes from a green or cool-based solution on a golden undertone; muddiness from a red base on a cool-deep undertone. Your artist reads the undertone in daylight and blends the mix to it. A complimentary patch test shows the exact tone before a full tan.
Which formula is best for deep skin tones?
All three work; it is the mix that matters. Signature ($45) for the most natural overnight development, Standard Rapid ($57) for same-day, Sweat-Resistant Rapid ($63) for Florida sweat and water, lasting 10–14 days.
Can a spray tan even out hyperpigmentation or discolouration?
It evens tone around marks and reduces contrast; it does not erase them. Scars, vitiligo and stretch marks take colour and often blend more than people expect. Tell us at intake and we adjust the application.
How long does a spray tan last on deep skin?
Seven to ten days for Signature and Standard Rapid, ten to fourteen for Sweat-Resistant. Daily moisturiser after the first rinse is the single biggest factor; dry skin exfoliates the tan off faster.
Do you offer a patch test?
Yes, complimentary on request, 24–48 hours before a first appointment. It shows the mixed tone on your own skin, which is the honest way to answer the ash question before you commit.

Every spray tan at The Bronze Lily is hand-airbrushed in a private suite, never a booth, by artists trained under Larae Leeson, the area’s longest-practising spray tan artist (14 years). The True Lily, by Larae herself, is $93.
