The short answer

The Root Room pairs plant medicine — an herbal foot soak and paired tea — with three pieces of “biohacking” technology: full-body red light, a personal Schumann resonance device tuned to 7.83 Hz that rests in your lap, and live sound instruments. None of it is a medical treatment. It is an environment, built to help your nervous system downshift while nothing is asked of you. Here is what each piece does — and, honestly, where the science is solid and where it is tradition. See the Root Room →

“Where plant medicine meets medical-grade biohacking.” It is the line on our Root Room page — and the part people ask about most is the biohacking half.

Biohacking is one of those words that can mean anything from a cold plunge to a forty-thousand-dollar gadget. In the Root Room it means something narrow and specific: a small set of tools that work on your senses and your nervous system — light, sound, and frequency — layered underneath the herbal foot soak and the tea. The plant side of the room is ancient. The technology side is the new part. This is a tour of that new part: the three instruments in the room, what each one is actually doing, and — because we would rather keep your trust than oversell — where the evidence is real and where it is simply tradition and a good feeling.

Why put “biohacking” tech in a foot spa?

Because the whole room is built around a single idea: the body settles fastest when you stop asking it to do anything. The warm soak occupies your feet. The tea occupies your hands. That frees up the background channels — the ones you do not consciously drive — and those are exactly what light, sound, and frequency work on. You are not meditating at the room or performing wellness. You are sitting in an environment engineered, layer by layer, to give your nervous system permission to drop.

The three instruments in the room

1. Full-body red light. Platinum Therapy BIOMAX panels — FDA Class II, seven wavelengths of red and near-infrared light — mounted on the wall beside you and running the whole session. Of the three tools this is the most clinically studied; red-light therapy has real, published support for skin, and a growing (if smaller) body of work on recovery and mood.

2. A personal Schumann device — 7.83 Hz. Each chair has its own Schumann V2 Pro, resting in your lap the entire time. It generates the Schumann resonance: 7.83 Hz, the Earth’s own background electromagnetic frequency, sometimes called the planet’s “heartbeat.” You do not do anything with it — you just hold it. We go deep on this one in the Schumann resonance guide.

3. Live sound. Not a phone playlist — a meditation sound-bowl instrument and a dedicated sound machine, layering singing-bowl tones and steady, grounding frequencies through the suite. Sound is the tool with the most research behind it, and it gets its own piece: what a sound bath actually does.

What the science actually says — and what it doesn’t

Here is the honest version, because you deserve it. Sound baths and singing bowls have the most support: small studies link a session to short-term drops in tension, anxiety, and low mood, most likely through plain old relaxation — the body’s rest-and-digest response switching on. Red light is genuinely well-studied for skin and has promising evidence elsewhere. The Schumann and “frequency healing” claims — the ones printed on the little cards that come with these devices, promising this many hertz for focus and that many for prosperity — are the least established. A few rest on real brainwave science (alpha and theta rhythms are measurable things); many are lovely modern folklore. We are not going to tell you 7.83 Hz cures anything.

What we will tell you is this: a low, warm room, a warm soak, steady sound, and a single point of quiet reliably help a nervous system settle — and the instruments are part of building that room. Even the Schumann device’s own guide says it plainly, and we love it for this: “nothing replaces the real thing — step outside, feel the earth beneath your feet.” We agree completely. The Root Room is a beautiful indoor version of something the planet gives away for free.

We would rather undersell the gadgets and have you leave genuinely rested than promise you a cure in a foot basin.

What you actually do with it (nothing)

This is the part people find hardest to believe: there is nothing to operate. You choose your tea and soak downstairs. Upstairs, everything is already in motion — red light glowing, soak warm, sound moving through the room, the Schumann device in your lap. You drink your tea. You soak. You let it work. Nothing is asked of you, and that is the whole point.

A few honest notes before you book

The sound and frequency tools are gentle, but a few people should check with us or their doctor first — the same honest fine print you will find on the Root Room page:

  • A seizure history or epilepsy: rhythmic sound and light are worth a conversation first — tell us and we will adjust.
  • Pacemakers, implanted medical devices, or metal implants: the makers of sound-vibration and personal-frequency devices flag these — let us know and we will leave them out or work around them.
  • Pregnancy: most of the room is gentle, but tell us at booking so we can tailor the session.
  • Certain mental-health conditions: deep meditative states are not right for everyone; if that is you, let us know.
  • It complements, it does not replace. None of this is medical care or a substitute for it. If something hurts or worries you, see a professional.

The point of the Root Room was never the gadgets. It is the hour — feet in warm water, a good cup, a room built to let you stop. The light, the sound, and the Earth’s frequency are simply how we make that hour go deeper. Come find out what an hour of nothing-asked-of-you feels like →
